The Binnacle’s First Year Journey
Accessibility does not always mean being physically able to participate. It can also mean be-
ing able to access information and stories that we see ourselves in. The Binnacle has done
that. With stories of other individuals with developmental disabilities written by themselves
and their families, our readers have relatable content that encourages and informs.
During our first year of preparation and discovery we took a good look at our personal lives
and came up with a foundation built on three very different journeys. Then we reached out
to others in our circles to add their stories who also reached out and we now have stories of
those that we are meeting for the first time. We are truly becoming that Compass that
shows us the way to new relationships, expanded advocacy, and a sense of belonging.
